Inter-Seeding
Iowa CRP Management provides inter-seeding which involves suppression of grasses and/or weeds using grazing, mowing, haying, prescribed burning, chemical control, disking, or a combination of these techniques prior to seeding, and again after seeding, to maximize wildflower or NWSG establishment and persistence.
Iowa CRP Management knows the selection of wildflower species that are most likely to take hold in the competitive environment of a grass dominated field. Inter-seeding is an option that provides guidelines and specific strategies for inter-seeding wildflowers into established grasslands and identifies species of wildflowers most likely to establish and persist in our region.
Now is the time to consider those spots on your farm that might benefit from CRP. Iowa CRP Management can help you explore your eligibility, options, seeding mixes and maintenance requirements. We are familiar with funding opportunities that can help landowners with the cost of wildlife habitat improvements.
